Old Carson Route.

            List of references of the distance from one ranch or trading post to another, showing the particular location of each ranch or trading post, with their advantages for grass and water over any other. This list commences at the Old Mormon Station, by the old Carson route to the city of Placerville, El Dorado county, Cal.

Reese & Co.,

            Old Mormon Station, have a large ranch, good grass, water, hay, barley, oats, wheat and vegetables; good hotel accommodations, flouring and saw mills, groceries, clothing and every necessary for the weary emigrant. Horses, mules, and oxen for sale or exchange.

J. V. Fain,

            Ranch and trading post, 1/2 mile south of the Old Mormon Station; hay, oats, barley, flour, vegetables and water in abundance.

W. P. Cozart,

            Clocks and watch maker, gold, silver and gunsmith, two miles south of the Old Mormon Station, at the warm and cold springs bath house; plenty of water, grass and liquors.

Post & Steward,

            Ranch and trading post, three miles east of the Old Mormon Station, at the mouth of the Johnson cut-off, 75 miles east of the city of Placerville; hotel, tin shop, stationery good grass, water, hay and barley.

W. Cossen,

            Ranch and trading post, four miles south of the Old Mormon Station; hotel, good grass, hay, barley and vegetables of all kinds.

S. Mott & Co.,

            Ranch and trading post; 6 miles south of the Old Mormon Station, good hotel accommodations, hay, barley, wheat, oats, flour and plenty of water, a good corral, horses, oxen, cows and mules to exchange or for sale.

Lewis & Co.,

            One half mile from Mott's ranch and corral, water and grass abundant; dealers in stock of all kind.

Daniel Woodford,

            Ranch and trading post 6 1/2 miles south of the Old Mormon Station; good hotel accommodations, hay, barley, grass and water in abundance.

Howard & Singleton,

            Have two ranches close together, 7 miles south of the Old Mormon Station; plenty of grass, hay, oats, barley and water, with a corral.

C. M. King,

            Ranch and trading post, 8 miles from the Old Mormon Station; good hotel accommodations, hay, barley, grass and water in abundance.

David Barber,

            Ranch, trading post and blacksmith shop, 8 1/2 miles south of the Old Mormon Station; hotel, hay, barley, grass and water; horses, oxen and mules for sale or trade, with a corral.

E. R. Carey & Co.,

            Ranch and trading post, 12 miles south of the Old Mormon Station; hay, barley, grass, and water; oxen, horses and cows for sale or exchange.

Wm. Williams,

            Ranch and hotel, 12 1/2 miles south of the Old Mormon Station; hay, oats, barley, grass, vegetables, cheese, butter, milk and water in abundance.

Lucky Bill's,

            Ranch, 14 miles south of the Old Mormon Station and six miles north of the cañon; plenty of grass and water; horses and oxen for sale or exchange; the highest price paid for emigrant stock; fresh meat and vegetables for sale.

Lamb & Wade,

            Ranch and trading post, 5 miles north of the cañon and 15 miles south of the Old Mormon Station; hay, barley, grass, vegetables and water in abundance.

B. Ward,

            Ranch and trading post, 15 1/2 miles south of the Old Mormon Station and 4 3/4 miles north of the cañon, it being the last ranch in Carson Valley; barley, hay, grass, vegetables and water in abundance.

Lent & Co.,

            Trading post, 20 miles from the Old Mormon Station, at the mouth of the big cañon; grass, provisions, groceries, meals at all hours and at reasonable rates, also plenty of water.

Big Cañon,

            20 miles from Mormon Station, 1 mile from mill, first bridge; two or more bridges through the cañon, with a good road. — Rates of toll— $1 per wagon, 10 cents a head for all cattle, 23 cents for mules or horses, 5 cents for calves and 3 cents for sheep.

Haynes & Warner,

            Hope Valley, 27 miles from Mormon Station; hotel, where the weary imigrant or others can procure meals at all hours served up in the best style; groceries, provisions, liquors of all kind, grass, hay barley, water and a good corral.

            Ranch, 31 miles from the Mormon Station; provisions and groceries: meals at all hours; grass and water in abundance.

Wm. M. Taylor & Co.,

            Ranch, 32 1/2 miles from the Mormon Station; grass, provisions, groceries, and meals at all hours; plenty of good water.

Wilshear & Co.,

            Trading post, 35 miles from the Mormon Station; meals at all hours; hay, barley, grass and water in great abundance.

Gould & Co.,

            Trading post in Lake Valley, on the right as you pass over the mountain; provisions, groceries, hay, barley, grass and water; meals at all hours, at reasonable rates.

Red Lake House,

            Red Luke Valley, 40 miles from the Mormon Station; accommodations for all; plenty of hay, barley, grass and provisions at reasonable rates.

Carey & Co.,

            Trading post, 50 miles from the Mormon Station; meals at all hours, provisions, groceries, hay, barley, grass and water plenty.

Raymond & Co.,

            Trading post, 53 miles from the Mormon Station; meals at all hours; groceries, provisions, barley, hay, grass and water.

Morris & Co.,

            Trading post, 57 miles from the Mormon Station, good road and plenty of grass and water; provisions; meals at all hours; terms reasonable.

Shipley and Dupont,

            Tragedy Springs, 59 miles from the Mormon Station and one mile from Silver Lake; the best grass and hay in the mountains, hay, barley, oats and provisions at city prices.

Hoboken,

            61 miles from the Mormon Station; provisions, groceries, hay, barley; meals at all hours; grass and water.

P. Reterson,

            Trading Post, 62 miles from Mormon Station. Provisions, groceries, hay, barley and meals at all hours, at reasonable prices. Grass and water.

Leake Spring Trading Post,

            66 miles from Mormon Station and 35 miles from Placerville. Good grass and water. Groceries, provisions, hay and barley at reasonable prices.

Peter Peters,

            Trading Post, 68 miles from Mormon Station, and 33 miles from Placerville.— Groceries, provisions, hay, barley, and meals at all hours, at reasonable prices. Grass and water.

Camp Creek Trading Post,

            77 miles from Mormon Station, and 30 miles from Placerville and Diamond Springs. Hay, by the bale, 4cts. per lb., at retail, 6 1/2cts. Groceries and provisions at city prices — meals at all hours. H. Bichey & Co., proprietors.

Cold Spring Ranch,

            82 miles from Mormon Station. Groceries, provisions, hay, barley, and meals at all hours. Grass and water abundant.

Hick's Ranch,

            82 miles from Mormon Station, and 21 miles from Placerville. Groceries, provisions, hay, barley, and meals at all hours, grass and water abundant.

Strong's Ranch,

            At the junction of the road. 15 miles from Placerville. Hotel — hay and barley for sale. Grass and water abundant.

            Blair & Gould,

            Sportsman's Hall, 11 miles from Placerville. Provisions, groceries, hay and barley. Good grass and water.

Illinois House,

            5 miles from Bartlett's bridge, on Johnson's cut-off, 80 acres under fence, good grass and water. Groceries, provisions, barley, and meals at all hours.

Elk Horn,

            7 miles from Placerville. Hay and barley for sale — meals at all hours.

Ogden and Wright,

            Chapparal. 3 3/4 miles from Placerville.

            23 miles east of Placerville. Grass and water. Hay, barley, pies, cakes and fresh meat will be kept on hand all summer. at reasonable prices.

B. Brockless,

            30 miles cast of Placerville. Grass and water in abundance. Hay, barley, provisions and groceries. Meals at all hours.

Peavine Ranch, by D. Folson,

            32 miles cast of Placerville. Thirty acres under fence; grass and water plenty all summer. Hay and barley at reasonable prices, and meals at all hours.

Howard & Young,

            Half Way House — 35 miles east of Placerville. Plenty of grass and water and provisions of all kinds. Seventy acres under fence. Good accommodations for Immigrants, on reasonable terms.

Clarke, Gill & Co.,

            Half Way House —35 miles east of Placerville. 40 acres under fence. Good accommodations for Immigrants — meals at all hours. Grass and water plenty. Hay and barley at reasonable prices.

Silver Creek Ranch,

            By Charles Bosworth, 37 miles east of Placerville — 400 acres under fence — Grass and water. Provisions, groceries, hay, barley, ground barley, liquors, &c.

Slippery Ford Trading Post,

            45 miles cast of Placerville — meals at all hours. Keeps constantly on hand a large supply of hay, barley, boots and shoes, ready made clothing, liquors, &c. Grass and water plenty.

Hiram Demy,

            Trading Post, 51 1/2 miles east of Placerville. Meals at all hours, groceries, hay and barley, all at reasonable prices. Grass and water.

Daniel McEnlam,

            Trading Post, 53 miles east of Placerville. Groceries, hay and barley, grass and water and a good corral.

Charles Scofield,

            Trading Post, 53 miles cast of Placerville. Meals at all hours, groceries, provisions, hay and barley. Grass and water in abundance
