Felipe Angeles [Felipe de Jesús Ángeles Ramírez] (1869-26.11.1919) -- b. the son of an Army colonel at Zacualtipán, Hidalgo; studied at the Military College of Mexico (Colegio Militar de México) and graduated 1892; commissioned a lieutenant of engineers; studied artillery tactics in the United States and Europe; promoted to brigadier general after the successful revolution of Francisco Madero; fought against the revolt of Pascual Orozco in Sonora; sent by Madero as envoy in an unsuccessful attempt to reconcile with Emiliano Zapata's revolt in Morelos; sent on a military mission to France following the coup of General Victoriano Huerta against the Madero government in February 1913; returned secretly to Mexico and joined the anti-Huerta forces of Venustiano Carranza; served as under-secretary of war under Carranza; broke with Carranza and allied himself with Pancho Villa; served as military governor of Coahuila 1914; representative to the Convention at Aguascalientes in October 1914; served as Governor of Coahuila 6 Jan 1915-12 Jan 1915; Governor of Nuevo León 15 Jan-15 Feb 1915; went into exile in December 1915 following the defeat of Villa's forces; helped form the Mexican Liberal Alliance (Alianza Liberal Mexicana) there; returned to Mexico and joined Villa's forces at the end of 1918; captured by Carrancista forces; put on trial for treason; convicted and sentenced to death by firing squad; executed 26 Nov 1919 in Chihuahua.
