Personalities Of The Mexican Revolution 1910-1928
_____________________________________________ Juan Andrew Almazán (12.5.1891-1965)
-- b. near Olinalá, Guerrero; attended medical school at Puebla 1907;
worked actively for the election of Francisco Madero in 1910; when
Madero began the revolution in November 1910, Almazán joined the rebel
forces; became friendly with the zapatistas and supported them against
the Madero government; following the coup of General Victoriano Huerta
in February 1913, Almazán joined Huerta's forces; after Huerta's defeat,
he fought with Zapata's forces against Carranza and the
Constitutionalists; fought alongside Pancho Villa's forces at Torreón;
went into exile but returned to Mexico in 1920; served as an Army
general during the administration of President Calles; ran
unsuccessfully for President in 1940; d. 1965.
