Aguilar Vargas] (23.2.1889-20.3.1960) -- b. Rancho de Palma,
Veracruz; joined the anti-reelection movement; signed the revolutionary
plan of San Ricardo (Plan Revolucionario de San Ricardo) June 14,
1910; took up arms against the Díaz regime
in November 1910; served under Gabriel Gavira; fought against the
uprising of Félix Díaz
in Veracruz; against zapatistas in Morelos, and against the revolt of
Pascual Orozco in Durango and Coahuila; fled to Guatemala and then the
United States after General Victoriano Huerta's coup against the Madero
government in February 1913; joined the Constitutionalist forces against
Huerta in May 1913; named military commander of Veracruz; served
as Governor of the Federal District 1912; Governor of Veracruz 29 May
1914-1915? and 18 Oct 1916-30 Nov 1920; delegate to the Convention at
Aguascalientes October 1914; Secretary of Foreign Affairs in Carranza's
cabinet Mar-Nov 1916 and February-November 1918; served as confidential
ambassador in various matters 1919; went into exile in the United States
following the murder of President Carranza in 1920; returned to Mexico;
operated in southeastern Mexico in support of the 1923-1924 de la Huerta uprising against Obregón; went into exile again when the revolt failed;
amnestied by President Lázaro Cárdenas and returned to Mexico 1939;
elected deputy and then senator from Veracruz to the Congress; awarded
the Legion of Honor by President Alemán in 1949; d. 1960.
