Some kind of blog:The Irascible OneA great loss --- The spiritual leader of the Western Shoshone Nation passed away recently, a great loss to his nation, to our nation, and to the ideals of Native Americans everywhere. A great swath of land across Nevada from the northeast to the southwest was Western Shoshone tribal land, including the Nuclear Test Range and Yucca Mountain. Corbin Harney fought for those lands, fought against nuclear testing and the Yucca nuclear garbage facility, fought against what he considered the "wrongs the government did to the Shoshone people." Harney will be greatly missed. ••• Yeah, it's a dry heat --- One hundred fifteen degrees in Las Vegas, One hundred eight degrees in Reno, one hundred twelve degrees in Lovelock; and some scientists are discussing the return of a glaciated period. One thing for certain, we should all have stock in Sierra Pacific Resources about now, or in any air conditioning company. At Reno's Whitewater Park, the Truckee River flows through the middle of the Biggest Little City, there was no room for rafts and kayaks for the last two weeks. Too many swimmers trying to get cool. Gin Sling, old boy?
There, doesn't that cool you off just a bit? ••• Nevada on fire --- Hundreds of thousands of acres are burning across the Silver State as you read this, and my first thought is to remind you to be careful. Duh. It is those that don't understand the word in the first place that might cause future problems, not those that are concerned citizens. What can you say to someone who plays with fireworks during a Red Flag warning? In the words of E Clampus Vitus, don't say anything, simply hang the bastard. ••• Mitigating fire losses --- So many lives have been upended this year because of the disastrous fires across the state and in near by California and Utah that the state insurance people have put out some really good information. For what you can do to protect yourself and your property following a fire, read the info here: http://doi.state.nv.us Yes, you have responsibilities but you also have rights and it's important that you understand these. ••• _________________________
