.Southern Nevada Power Rates Might Stabilize Into 2007 PUC Set To Accept Settlement Agreement Between Nevada Power And Others
A possible rate increase of at least six- percent may have been averted following agreement between Nevada Power Company and others based on the rate of recovery of fuel and other expenses. This might mean no increase in power rates until sometime in mid 2007. Southern Nevada power bills are the highest in the summer because of air conditioning while in northern Nevada the highest bills come during cold winter months because of heating. As one wag put it, if we lived in the middle of the state, we could have really high bills in the winter and the summers. The state's consumer advocate Eric Witkoski said the hold on rate increases for southern Nevada was a good deal. Without the settlement he said, rates could have been increased by as much as six percent in August of this year. There was a 7.1 percent increase earlier this year already. •••
