Natural Gas Available To Tahoe Reno Industrial Center

Largest Industrial Center In Country Inside SPPCo Service Territory

Nevada's Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has approved expansion of Sierra Pacific Power Company's (SPPCo) northern Nevada natural gas service territory by annexing contiguous areas located in Storey County and Lyon County.  PUC officials say the expansion will allow SPPCo to provide gas service to the areas near and adjacent to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, which requested the service.

The areas involved are outside an area that is served by Southwest Gas Corporation.  Southwest Gas did not object.  Tahoe Reno Industrial Center located along the southern shore of the Truckee River in Storey County is reputed to be the largest center of its kind in the country.  Wal-Mart is building a distribution center to handle Wal-Mart stores in the western states.

Along with Interstate 80, transportation facilities include intercontinental rail service and international air service from Reno-Tahoe International Airport.  From a tax viewpoint, Storey County officials look at the industrial center as a monetary savior.  Storey County is the smallest county in the state.  Virginia City serves as county seat.
