The Buzz Around The Silver Stateas compiled by our correspondentsChurchill County Flood Threat Minimized From Lahontan, Reservoirs (Fallon) --- Officials from the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District (TCID) are saying the threat of a spring run-off flood in the Lahontan Valley is minimal at this time. The Carson River is running high following an exceptional winter, but there is still room in Lahontan Reservoir to hold considerable water. Officials are looking to bring the lake to its maximum by using what are called flashboards. Flashboards have been in place all spring and there is about 20 inches of room left before the water goes over the top. With the flashboards the lake's capacity is 311,000 acre-feet. Other reservoirs in the Fallon area are full at this time including S-Line and the Harmon reservoir. Old River Reservoir has about five feet to go before going over the top and TCID officials have been keeping Sheckler Reservoir low for flood protection. ••• White Pine County Summer Tour Schedule In Effect At Lehman Caves (Baker) --- One of Nevada's most exciting features can be found at Great Basin National Park in the Lehman Caves located high on Mount Wheeler, Nevada's second highest peak. The Kraemer company has been paid $46 million to this time and NDOT is now looking for another contractor to finish the project. The Galena Creek Bridge is to be 1,719 feet long and will span a large creek bed and canyon. In all the new freeway when completed will link Mt. Rose Road, where I-580 ends at this time with Washoe Valley. According to highway department officials the project is about two-years behind schedule at this time.
