McGowan Gets To Keep His Job As Court Case Dropped
Tax Issues Not Decided However -- They Are To Be Answered By Supremes

Residents of Incline Village along the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe have dropped their lawsuit designed to force Washoe County Assessor Bob McGowan out of office. At the heart of the matter is whether or not McGowan used new rules while appraising the various parcels in the high-end community. A malfeasance case was dropped "with prejudice" in Washoe District Court. With prejudice means the suit cannot be filed again.

The new rules include such items as "view of the lake," and whether or not the home is to be razed or has been razed. Questions about the rules are before the state Supreme Court at this time and the malfeasance case is separate. Incline Village residents believe McGowan is using the old standards. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxes are at stake in the court battle.
