Washoe County Growth

Editor, The Nevada Observer,

We need to have a vote of the people at all levels of government to slow this monster. I feel like a minority but there are thousands who feel the same way as I. This election year is an opportunity to make candidates commit to their position regarding growth and citizens can vote accordingly.

Have you read the numerous articles produced by Susan Voyles of the RGJ?

Subject: Nevada Events

Hi Johnny -

I work at the Nevada Commission on Tourism and saw the "Your Tax Dollars at Work" tab on your Web site. I'm so glad to hear that you check our site for events listings and am apalled that our site hasn't been updated lately. Our Webmaster is a one-man show right now, so he is trying to keep the site as updated as possible until an assistant is hired. His former assistant moved on to another state agency in December so we were shorthanded over the holidays and New Year and will be excited to welcome a new staff member in the next week or so. The lack of upcoming events has been brought to the attention of our director and Webmaster, and the site should be updated today.

I'd like to add you to our distribution list for the Nevada Travel Roundup. It's a bi-monthly summary of upcoming events, new attractions, hotel news, and everything in between. I will be compiling the March/April issue this week, but can e-mail you the January/February one if you'd like. The roundup is posted online and e-mailed to travel and news journalists nationwide, visitors bureaus and tour operators to keep them informed on what's going on in Nevada. We actually receive a lot of pickup in newspapers and travel magazines from the roundup, so the events and such spread beyond just our initial distribution.

Also, it is important to note that our budget is paid for by a fraction of the room tax. The more visitors we attract, the more money we get to attract them. But our budget does not come out of the General Fund and is not paid by residents' tax dollars.

I have just recently discovered your Web site and use it as a reliable resource for what's going on in the state beyond my own office walls. (I'm a big fan of Erik Holland's artwork and am happy to see his cartoons featured on your site!)

I'd love to talk with you about NCOT any time - especially when it comes to such a horrible oversight like not updating the events listing! Please give me a call when you have a chance.
Thanks!
-Bethany
