Federal Deficit Reduction Act Passed In The House
Congressman Jim Gibbons Among Those Supporting The Controversial Measure

The vote on the floor of the House of Representatives was as close as one would want, 217-215 in favor of the Deficit Reduction Act. According to Nevada Congressman Jim Gibbons (R), "The bill is designed to save $50 billion by reforming the federal government and reducing waste, fraud, and abuse within the bureaucracy."

Gibbons has supported a one percent across the board cut in federal spending, and regarding this bill said, "I continue to stand up for the taxpayers of Nevada by supporting legislation that will keep our country on sound fiscal footing."

There are some saying the administration supported measure is going to destroy local governments, some others claiming it is a way to decrease what is commonly referred to as pork barrel issues. Because of holiday breaks the bill will probably be held in limbo until after the first of the year.
