Public Works Projects In Washoe May Total
$65 Million Or More
County Looking To
Build Or Rebuild Much Of Its Water And Sewer Facilities
Seven major public works projects are planned for the coming months at a
cost of about $65 million according to a resolution adopted by the Washoe
County Commission on July 12. Nevada General Obligation Water and Sewer
bonds will be used for the financing, "And all of the project's costs and
debt service will be paid by utility users." The Commission says no money
will come from the County General Revenue sources. Both are funded by you
the taxpayer.
Water projects include the Hidden Valley Water System Improvements,
Lemmon Valley Water System Improvements, South Truckee Meadows Water
Treatment Facility, Spanish Springs Water system Improvements, and the
Longley Lane Water Treatment Facility. Sewer projects include Pleasant
Valley Interceptor and the Spanish Springs Treatment Facility.
The County Debt Management Commission must review and approve the plans
before any of the projects can begin. In the final analysis, it's likely
there will be state and federal grant money involved as well.
