.Pierson Named Director Of Business Development At EDAWN

Ken Pierson has been appointed director of business development for the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) according to President and CEO Chuck Alvey.

Pierson was previously business development manager and has been instrumental in recruiting new businesses to northern Nevada including the record-setting 20 companies that EDAWN reported in fiscal year 2003-2004. The new companies are responsible for an economic impact of $240 million on the region. Pierson replaces Lisa Plummer who is leaving EDAWN after six years to join her family business and spend more time with her family.

In his position, Pierson is responsible for overseeing the recruitment of new companies to the region and developing business leads in targeted industries that bring quality companies and high paying jobs to the area. He also fosters key development relationships with the research, tech transfer and key colleges at the University of Nevada Reno, Desert Research Institute and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology to promote the region to start-up companies and entrepreneurs.

Pierson has more than two decades of business, sales, project management and operations experience. Prior to joining EDAWN, he was general manager of the New Horizons Computer Learning Center in Reno. He was also the president and director of a national e-commerce retail company, president/owner of a property management firm and real estate broker. He is a member of the Truckee Meadows Community College Computer Technologies Advisory Committee and Redfield Campus Advisory Board. Pierson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nevada.
