Publisher's Message and Mission Statement

First, let me welcome you to The Nevada Observer. Launching our publication on Nevada Day 2003 is our way of saying we are for and of Nevada, with all its greatness, with all its foibles, and in this and future editions, we plan to bring the greatness and foibles forward for your observation.

The Nevada Observer is a web-based news magazine. At this time, we have no plans for a print edition, nor do we have plans to charge you to visit our pages. The news magazine will be available to all with no subscription charges.

For the record, editor-in-chief Johnny Gunn has an extensive background in both print and broadcast journalism and intends to spend a great deal of time in investigative reporting. Mention scandal and his nose twitches.

Your publisher is a Nevada historian with nearly 20 years experience in the publishing business, and from time to time I'll also contribute articles to these pages.

For readers interested in 20th century Nevada, we've created a special research area. Called the Reading Room, it will be devoted to those who wish to do primary research--research directly from the source. For example, our first presentation is pages from the Kefauver Hearings, particularly the sections that relate directly to Nevada. Most of the Reading Room offerings will be in pdf format. We intend to publish many public documents to help you decide issues of import in our state for yourself.

For Nevadans, we're a new source of information, information you probably won't find in a daily or weekly newspaper. Our journalistic standards will be the highest, and truth will be foremost in our reporting. We may step on some toes, we may make enemies, but we hope our readers will learn to trust The Nevada Observer and know we won't bamboozle them with shoddy reporting or a hidden agenda.

As publisher, I look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to voice your opinion. If you feel you have knowledge about something that other Nevadans would want to know, you may always contact editor Gunn or myself.
